Free summer concert in BMW sponsorship
The London Symphony Orchestra is to give a free open air concert in Trafalgar Square in a new sponsorship by BMW.
Up to 10,000 people will see Valery Gergiev, the LSO’s principal conductor, lead the orchestra in an evening of Stravinsky on May 12 – with a 6.30 start but on a Saturday evening to avoid the rush hour traffic.
Kathryn McDowell, the LSO’s managing director, said that a special set would have to be built or the first ever symphony concert to be staged in the square. “It enables us to continue our mission to bring music to a wider public” she said, thanking the sponsor.
BMW’s Ian Robertson said the new agreement was for three years, with a single Trafalgar Square concert each summer. “It underscores BMW’s commitment ot Britain and to British culture” he said.
