£ 1 million for arts centre’s North Finchley base
Barnet Council is using £1 million grant to create a cultural quarter based on the Artsdepot arts centre in North Finchley.
The financial lift, which comes from the Mayor of London’s Outer London Fund, aims to put the “buzz back into the high street.”
The cash will cover new lighting, a space for public art and improved signage to create a strong identity for this area of town. In addition, resurfacing, trees and benches will be installed to improve the immediate environment.
Barnet Council also plans a new landmark library at artsdepot.
Tracy Cooper, chief executive of artsdepot, said: “We are delighted that Barnet’s Outer London Fund bid has been successful and the significant recognition by the Mayor’s Office of artsdepot’s contribution to the community of Barnet. We are thrilled by their support of arts and culture in Barnet and the long term benefits this will have for the community.”
