Venue makes global links for all-round events
The Roundhouse in London has joined with other circular venues across the world to create a co-commissioning programme.
The first piece from the scheme is to be a new work by the Canadian playwright Robert Le Page, Cartes, which will have its world premiere in Madrid in May and will be seen in London for a month in a year’s time.
There are 13 venues in the group, in Sweden, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands as well as the UK.
“There is no way that individually any one of us could commission a play from someone like Le Page alone” Roundhouse chief executive Marcus Davey said today. “This piece will be in four parts, based on the families in a deck of cards, and each part will be produced in successive years”. He said there would be other joint projects including conferences and exhibitions, exploring the 360 degree presentation.
Davey also announced a new global youth arts forum, Call to Create, to give young people the opportunity to experience working with arts organisations worldwide. The Roundhouse will start approaching international organisations in May and hopes to attract 100 to the scheme.
