Knighthood for McVicar, Hadid a dame in arts list
Michael Boyd, the retiring artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company, has been knighted in the queen’s birthday honours list, while the RSC’s executive director, Vikki Heywood, is made a CBE. Together the pair have turned the company’s fortunes, and got the new Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford open. They both leave at the end of this year.
The former culture secretary Tessa Jowell is made a dame, as is the architect Zaha Hadid and the arts philanthropist Theresa Sackler.
The opera director David McVicar, the actor Kenneth Branagh, the musican and librettist Richard Stilgoe and the founder of the Eden project, Tim Smit, are all knighted.
