Opera singer dies at arts funding meeting
The Welsh baritone Karl Daymond has died as he was about to speak in a debate about the future of the Drill Hall, the Chepstow arts venue.
Daymond, 52, who had sung with English Nati0nal Opera, Welsh national Opera, the Royal Opera House, Opera North and Glyndebourne, was one of a number of artists campaigning to save funding for the Monmouthshire venue, where had directed in the past.
The discussions was about whether the Drill Hall should be transferred from the local authority to a charitable trust. Earlier in the year there had been a £50,000 Big Lottery grant for renovations, and another £1m grant was dependent on its future ownership.
