Burns gets his own festival
A new contemporary multi-arts festival is to be launched in Edinburgh in the name of Scotland’s national poet Robert Burns, on Burns Night, January 25.
Burns Unbroke – the name comes from an epigram by Burns – will feature 30 visual artists and four newly commissioned works, with spoken word performances and music.
It has support from Creative Scotland’s Open Project Fund and Scotland’s Winter Festivals event fund, and sponsorship from Isle of Arran Distillers Ltd.
The aim, said Burns Unbroke director Sheilagh Tennant, is to highlight the continuing relevance of Burns’s words. “Burns Unbroke provides the opportunity, for the first time, to bring together such an impressive range of visual and performance artists under one banner” she said.
