ACE appoints temporary theatre chief

Tarek Iskander has been appointed interim director of theatre at Arts Council England.

Iskander is one of the founders of London’s Yard Theatre and was formerly resident director at the National Theatre Studio. He will take up the role for nine months while ACE’s director of theatre Neil Darlison, takes up a secondment at the Theatre Royal Stratford East.

Iskander will work part-time for ACE, continuing as temporary artistic director of London’s Battersea Arts Centre.

Simon Mellor, deputy chief executive of arts and culture at Arts Council England said: “Tarek is a talented theatremaker, with first-hand experience of the challenges that emerging theatremakers face in developing their practice. He also brings a wealth of senior management experience from his role at the NHS.”
