Leeds to get new BFI operation

Young Audiences Fund will set up in the Yorkshire city

The British Film Institute (BFI) is to base much of its £57m Young Audiences Content Fund in Leeds.

The news comes in a job ad for the head of the new fund, which says “We wish to locate some of the fund staff, including the head of the fund, in the Yorkshire Cluster, to capitalise on the growing talent and production strengths in the North of England, and to align closely with the emerging PSB commissioning hubs in Leeds and Salford”.

The Young Audiences Content Fund was set up by the Department of Culture, Media & Sport following concerns that commissioning of new childrens’ TV programmes was declining. It will be launched in April 2019.

The Leeds move follows news that the city has been chosen as the new headquarters for Channel Four.
