Ikon’s new curator is Melanie Pocock

Birmingham’s Ikon Gallery has appointed the writer and contemporary curator Melanie Pocock as its new curator.

Previously assistant curator at ICA Singapore where she organised more than 60 exhibitions since her arrival in 2014, she will be working with Ikon’s director Jonathan Watkins. Before the ICA she worked at Modern Art Oxford and Art Scene China, and has an MA in curating from the Royal College of Art.

“I’ve long been inspired by the internationalism of Ikon’s programme and the depth of its work with local communities” she said. “For decades Ikon’s artist-centric approach, from career-changing solo exhibitions to pioneering off-site projects have set its programme apart”.

Ikon, established by a group of artists in 1964, is an educational charity and works to encourage public engagement with contemporary art.
