Natasha Bucknor moves to Free Word

Talawa Theatre’s Natasha Bucknor is to join Free Word in the new role of executive director, working alongside CEO and artistic director Roma Backhouse.

“Free Word is unique in the arts landscape creating a space for artists, organisations and audiences interested in words, politics, and community” said Bucknor. “I look forward to contributing to its future.”

Founded in 2009 Free Word, the arts organisation and venue focused on the power and politics of words, has become established as a home for literary and campaigning organisations and has recently expanded its work to cover multi-disciplinary events and contemporary issues, exploring themes such as privacy, gender and home. Its programme is creating a platform for inspiring, fresh writers, artists and activists offering perspectives that are often under-represented in our society.

Bucknor has been executive director at Talawa since 2014, and before that was at the Almeida Theatre, National Theatre Studio and the Southbank Centre. She was made an MBE in the 2019 New Year Honours List.
