Film producer Uzma Hasan to chair Bush

The Bush Theatre has announced that the television and film producer Uzma Hasan is to be its new chair.

She will replace Simon Johnson who steps down after six years during which he oversaw the theatre’s £4.3m renovation and the appointment of a new executive team.

“The inspired programme of new writing and events is led by the brilliant artistic director Lynette Linton and it is a privilege to join her, along with executive director Lauren Clancy, the staff, trustees, and audiences” Hasan said. “The importance of this theatre as a safe space in which to explore identity, stretch creative potential, and free the imagination, is as vital now as it has ever been. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected us in many ways and the Bush, for years a cultural hub at the heart of the local community in Shepherd’s Bush, has a key role to play in rebuilding, healing, and enriching the future.”

Set in one of the most culturally diverse areas of London, the Bush opened in 1972 to champion the work of emerging playwrights.
