Carnival comes to Holland Park

Opera Holland Park is to welcome steel pan and calypso for three concerts in a partnership with Notting Hill Carnival.

Both annual events had to be abandoned last year but are combining for the first time on August 19.20 and 21, the weekend before the carnival proper, for Carnival Culture in the Park which is one of the highlights of a new programming for this year in which the street party will not take place in West London for once but in a series of events. Holland Park is in the middle of a full opera festival which ends on August 7.

“At a time when all arts companies need to think creatively and imaginatively, and to work more closely in partnerships, it is great to have our friends and neighbours taking a short residency in the creative hub that is Opera Holland Park” said James Clutton, CEO of Opera Holland Park.

Featured artists and ensembles in the series include the Mangrove and Ebony Steelbands, Leon ‘Foster’ Thomas, Alexander D Great and Trinidadian opera singer, Anne Fridal.
